65th Locarno International Film Festival Program
13 films out of them are the world’s premières. Apichatpong Weerasethakul, the Thai filmmaker, who was awarded Cannes’ «Golden Palm» for the film “Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives”, will lead the festival’s jury.
Directed by the Russian documentary film makers, graduating students of Marina Razbezhkina and Michael Ugarov’s Documentary film and theatre studio, the film “Winter, go away!” representing the Russian winter 2011-2012 protest movement chronicle is part of the Locarno International Film Festival “Filmmakers of the Present” program.
“Filmmakers of the Present” includes 15 live-action and documentary debuts or other films selected by Olivier Pierre, the program director, who earlier led “Quinzaine des realisateurs”, the most experimental Cannes Film Festival program. Besides the Russian film there are the films of the young filmmakers from Canada, the USA, France, Switzerland, China, Brazil, Israel, Spain, and Japan represented in the program.
This year searching for the new talents “Golden Leopard” includes 28 short and medium-length films by young independent filmmakers from Europe, Asia, Australia, the USA, and Britain. The only CIS country will be represented by the Miroslav Slaboshpitskiy’s film.
65th Locarno International Film Festival will take place 1-11th, August 2012.
