Based on the wildly popular novel of the same name by Michael Muhammad Knight, The Taqwacores is the story of Yusef, a first generation Pakistani engineering student, living in Buffalo, NY with a group of Muslim punks. His housemates introduce him to Taqwacore, a hardcore Muslim punk rock scene that exists out west. Taqwacore becomes the domineering influence in the house, and ultimately on Yusef, forcing him to challenge his faith and his ideologies. The Taqwacores deals with the complexities of being young and Muslim in modern-day America.
